Céad míle fáilte · Kilkenny City

Far from the madding crowd – but not too far!

Formerly a Carriage House & Stable Yard for Kilkenny Castle, Butler Court combines the charms of a bygone era with an unbeatable city centre location. A central, quiet courtyard setting with modern accommodation, where you'll receive a warm Irish welcome from your hosts Yvonne and John.

The hospitality is professional yet informal, and Yvonne and John are genuinely delighted to fill your days with the hidden gems of the Kilkenny area.

The courtyard

A hidden yard behind Patrick Street

Every room opens directly onto the gated courtyard, so it stays bright, airy and wonderfully quiet, yet the Castle is a two-minute stroll away.

Then & now

Patrick Street, c.1900

Long before it welcomed travellers, our yard housed the carriages and horses of Kilkenny Castle. The street outside has hardly changed – the same limestone, the same gentle bustle – and the courtyard gates still open onto the heart of the Medieval Mile.

Meet Bo too, our friendly rescue dog, who takes his greeting duties very seriously.
